Co-Amox

Each 1 ml of suspension contains:

• Amoxicillin trihydrate ……….. 100 mg
• Colistin sulfate ………..……. 250,000 IU
• Solvent (up to) …………………….…..….. 1 ml
  (Polyoxyethylene glycol ricinoleate, Medium-chain saturated triglycerides)

Treatment of respiratory infections (pasteurellosis, polyserositis, pneumonia, pleuropneumonia), gastrointestinal infections (enteritis, diarrhea, E. coli, salmonellosis), urinary-genital infections, and secondary infections following viral diseases in cattle, buffalo, and pigs.

Amoxicillin: A bactericidal agent that inhibits bacterial cell wall mucopeptide synthesis.

Colistin: A bactericidal antibiotic from the polymyxin group. It binds to phospholipids, altering bacterial cytoplasmic membrane permeability and structure, causing leakage of intracellular contents.

Bacterial spectrum:

• Amoxicillin: Effective against Streptococci, Staphylococci (non-beta-lactamase-producing), Haemophilus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Brucella spp., Shigella spp., Fusiformis spp., Clostridium spp., Spherophorus necrophorus, and Erysipelothrix.
• Colistin: Effective against Aerobacter aerogenes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Vibrio spp.

Pharmacokinetics:

• Amoxicillin is rapidly absorbed after injection, widely distributed into tissues and fluids, including synovial fluid, and partially penetrates the cerebrospinal fluid (10–60% of plasma concentration). In dogs, approximately 13% binds to plasma proteins, with low concentrations in milk. It is primarily excreted via the kidneys, with some converted to penicilloic acid and eliminated in urine. The half-life in dogs is about 90 minutes.
• Combining Amoxicillin and Colistin produces a synergistic effect, enhancing their efficacy.

For intramuscular injection only. Shake well before use.

• General dosage: 1 ml per 10 kg body weight, once daily, for 3 consecutive days. Do not inject more than 20 ml per site.
• Can be administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously in dogs.

OVERDOSE:
Excessive Colistin can cause necrotizing nephritis.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:

• Meat consumption: 21 days.
• Milk extraction: 3 days.

• Avoid concurrent use with rapidly acting bacteriostatic antibiotics (e.g., Tetracycline).
• Incompatible with Kanamycin and Erythromycin.
• The efficacy of Colistin decreases in the presence of calcium ions. Do not mix with calcium-containing products.
• Do not dilute or mix with water or other solvents. If dilution is necessary, use ASTA Injection Solvent.

USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
Safe for use in pregnant and lactating animals.

Not for use in small herbivores or unapproved animals. Do not use in animals with kidney dysfunction or neonatal animals.

Local irritation may occur at the injection site.

Prolonged use or high doses may cause kidney damage (due to Colistin) and neurotoxicity.

Store in a dry, dark place at a temperature ≤ 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
