Cefquino-LA Cefquino-LA
Ingredient

Each 1 ml contains:

  • Cefquinome sulfate: 50 mg
  • Excipients: q.s. 1 ml
    (Aluminium stearate, Medium-chain triglycerides)
Uses

Treatment of respiratory diseases in cattle and pigs.

Pharmacological properties

Cefquinome is a bactericidal antibiotic of the fourth-generation cephalosporin group, with a broad antibacterial spectrum. It inhibits bacterial growth and division by disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis.

  • In cattle: Cefquinome is highly effective against pathogens causing respiratory diseases such as Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, and Histophilus somni.
  • In pigs: Effective against Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Haemophilus parasuis, and Pasteurella multocida.

Pharmacokinetics:

  • In cattle: After a subcutaneous dose of 2.5 mg/kg body weight, Cmax = 1 μg/ml at Tmax = 2 hours. Approximately 5% of Cefquinome binds to plasma proteins and is excreted unchanged in urine. In calves, around 90% of the dose is eliminated via urine, and 5% via feces.
  • In pigs: After an intramuscular dose of 2.5 mg/kg body weight, Cmax = 0.86–0.88 μg/ml at Tmax = 1 hour. Cefquinome weakly binds to plasma proteins (approximately 14%) and is primarily excreted via urine.
Usage

Shake well before use. Administer intramuscularly or subcutaneously. Repeat after 48 hours.

  • Pigs: 1 ml/25 kg body weight (3 mg/kg). Do not inject more than 3 ml per site.
  • Cattle: 1 ml/30 kg body weight (2.5 mg/kg). Do not inject more than 10 ml per site.

OVERDOSE:
In cattle, buffalo, and pigs, doses up to 3 times the recommended amount (3X) are well-tolerated.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:

  • For meat consumption:
  • Do not use in lactating dairy cows producing milk for human consumption.
Recommendations

Individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to β-lactam or cephalosporin antibiotics should avoid handling or administering the product.

USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:

In cattle, buffalo, and pigs, the product does not affect reproductive performance (including teratogenicity). However, consult a veterinarian and weigh the benefits and risks before use.

Contraindications
  • Do not use in animals with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or other β-lactam antibiotics.
  • Not recommended for use in poultry due to the risk of antimicrobial resistance in humans.
Side effects

Subcutaneous injection may cause mild inflammation at the injection site.

Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions may occur.

Pain at the injection site is possible.

Expiry date

Unopened product: 24 months.

Opened product: Use within 30 days after the first dose is withdrawn.

Storage

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Protect from direct sunlight.
