CEFQUINO-DC

Powder vial (20 ml): Contains Cefquinome sulfate 0.675 g.

Diluent vial (15 ml): Each ml contains Benzyl alcohol 10 mg (E1519).

Reconstituted solution (1 ml):

• Active ingredient: Cefquinome (as sulfate) 45 mg.
• Excipient: Benzyl alcohol (E1519) 10 mg.

Highly effective for treating respiratory diseases, septicemia caused by E. coli, skin infections, hoof rot, and acute mastitis. Indicated for bacterial infections caused by Cefquinome-sensitive bacteria in horses, cattle, and buffalo.

Pharmacodynamics:

Cefquinome is a bactericidal antibiotic belonging to the fourth-generation cephalosporins with a broad-spectrum activity. It inhibits bacterial growth and division by disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is highly effective against pathogens causing respiratory diseases in cattle such as Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, and Histophilus somni; and in pigs such as Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Haemophilus parasuis, and Pasteurella multocida.

Pharmacokinetics:

In cattle: Following subcutaneous administration at 2.5 mg/kg body weight, the maximum concentration (Cmax) is 1 μg/ml, reached in 2 hours (Tmax). Approximately 5% of Cefquinome binds to plasma proteins and is excreted unchanged in urine. In calves, around 90% of the dose is excreted via urine and 5% via feces.

In pigs: Following intramuscular administration at 2.5 mg/kg body weight, Cmax is 0.86–0.88 μg/ml, reached in 1 hour. Cefquinome has a low plasma protein binding (around 14%) and is mainly excreted through urine.

Inject the diluent into the powder vial, shake well before use. Do not mix with other solvents (e.g., distilled water). Administer intramuscularly or subcutaneously.

• Cattle, buffalo, horses, pigs: 1 ml/45 kg body weight (1 mg/kg), once daily (foals: twice daily) for 5–7 consecutive days.
• Calves, buffalo calves: 2 ml/45 kg body weight (2 mg/kg), once daily for 3–5 consecutive days.

USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:

In cattle, buffalo, and pigs, the medication does not affect reproductive performance (including teratogenicity). However, consult a veterinarian or carefully weigh benefits and risks before use.

OVERDOSE:
At doses of 20 mg/kg body weight in cattle and 3 mg/kg body weight twice daily in foals, the medication remains well tolerated.

Do not use in animals with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or other β-lactam antibiotics.

• Subcutaneous injections may cause mild inflammation at the injection site.
• Rare cases of hypersensitivity reactions.
• Pain may occur at the injection site.

• Product: 24 months.
• Reconstituted solution: 10 days at 2–8°C.

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Avoid direct sunlight. Reconstituted solution must be used within 10 days when stored at 2–8°C.
