Uses

Treats typhoid, pneumonia, enteritis, mastitis, metritis, pasteurellosis, arthritis, and head swelling syndrome in cattle, buffalo, pigs, goats, and sheep.

Pharmacological properties

Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S subunit, and possibly the 50S subunit, of ribosomes in sensitive bacteria. It may also alter the cytoplasmic membrane. Doxycycline has a broad antimicrobial spectrum, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria (e.g., E. coli, Haemophilus spp., Salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp., Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp.) and certain cell-wall-resistant microorganisms like Rickettsia, Coxiella burnetii, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Chlamydia spp.
Florfenicol is a broad-spectrum bacteriostatic antibiotic effective against Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., E. coli, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella spp., Bordetella bronchiseptica, Haemophilus spp., Fusobacterium, Klebsiella pneumoniae. It is particularly effective against Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae and Pasteurella multocida. Florfenicol binds to the 50S (possibly 70S) ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting peptidyl transferase and blocking protein synthesis.
After intramuscular injection, the active ingredients are rapidly absorbed and widely distributed throughout organs and tissues, maintaining therapeutic concentrations for 24 hours. The drug is metabolized in the kidneys into inactive metabolites and is primarily excreted through bile and urine, with a small amount excreted in feces.

Usage

Administer intramuscularly for 3–5 consecutive days.

Cattle and buffalo: 1 ml per 15 kg body weight.
Calves: 1 ml per 7.5 kg body weight.
Pigs, goats, and sheep: 1 ml per 10 kg body weight per day.
If the injection volume exceeds 2.5 ml for piglets (or 5 ml for larger pigs), administer at two different sites.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:

Meat consumption: 18 days.
Milk extraction: 6 days.

Recommendations

Do not use concurrently with Thiamphenicol, Chloramphenicol, Penicillins, Cephalosporins, or Fluoroquinolones. Do not mix with other medications in the same syringe.

USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
Do not use in pregnant or lactating animals.

Contraindications

Do not use in animals hypersensitive to florfenicol or doxycycline.

Expiry date

2 years from the manufacturing date.

Storage

Store in a dry, cool place at temperatures ≤ 30°C. Keep out of reach of children.
