Uses

For the treatment of pneumonia, diarrhea, and wound infections in cattle, pigs, and poultry.

Pharmacological properties

Tylosin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic belonging to the Macrolide group. It acts on the 50S ribosomal subunits of sensitive bacteria (Macrolides bind to 23S rRNA on 50S ribosomes, overlapping with Clindamycin but differing from Phenicol) and inhibits bacterial protein synthesis.

Tylosin is effective against pathogens such as:

Gram-positive bacteria: Streptococcus, Bacillus, Staphylococcus, Corynebacterium, Clostridium, Erysipelothrix.
Gram-negative bacteria and others: Campylobacter, Spirochaetes, Mycoplasma, Fusiformis, Pasteurella, Chlamydia.

After intramuscular injection in pigs at a dose of 8.8 mg/kg body weight, Tylosin is quickly absorbed, with a Cmax of 1.4-1.6 µg/ml and Tmax of 1-2 hours. The drug is well distributed, with lung tissue concentrations consistently higher than plasma concentrations. It is excreted through milk (at 20% of the serum concentration), urine, and bile, both in its original and metabolized forms.

Usage

Administer intramuscularly. Repeat after 48 hours if necessary.

Cattle and pigs: 1 ml per 25 kg body weight.
Poultry: 1 ml per 10 kg body weight.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:

For meat consumption: 8 days.
For milk production: 4 days.
