Ingredient

Per 1 ml of solution contains:

Fosfomycin sodium: 100 mg
Diluent: up to 1 ml

Uses

Poultry: Treatment of coryza, pasteurellosis, E. coli infections, chronic respiratory disease (CRD), fowl typhoid, omphalitis, arthritis, yolk sac infections, and psittacosis.

Livestock: Treatment of pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, mastitis, genital tract infections, omphalitis, and arthritis.

Pharmacological properties

Fosfomycin is a derivative of phosphonic acid, extracted from Streptomyces fradiae and other Streptomyces species or synthesized. Its bactericidal effect is highly specific. Fosfomycin is absorbed into bacterial cells at high concentrations through an active transport system and inhibits the enzyme enolpyruvyl transferase. This results in reduced production of uridine diphosphate-N-acetylmuramic acid, an essential precursor in bacterial cell wall synthesis.

The bacterial spectrum of Fosfomycin includes:
Mycoplasma synoviae, E. coli, Salmonella spp., Proteus, Haemophilus spp., Staphylococcus sp., Streptococcus spp., Corynebacterium, Pasteurella spp., Actinobacillus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Ornithobacterium rhinotracheale.

Fosfomycin is rapidly absorbed after injection (Tmax: 0.75 hours in pigs; 0.8–2.0 hours in broiler chickens), binds minimally to plasma proteins (<0.5%), is not metabolized in the body, and is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine. Its half-life varies by species (pigs: 1.5–1.8 hours; cattle: 2.17–2.50 hours; broilers: 1.86 hours).

Usage

Livestock: Administer intramuscularly at a dose of 1 ml per 50 kg body weight/day (2–4 mg Fosfomycin/kg body weight) for 3–5 consecutive days.
Poultry: Administer subcutaneously at a dose of 1 ml per 15–20 kg body weight (10 mg Fosfomycin/kg body weight).
In combination with Marek’s disease vaccine: Dilute 4–8 ml of Fosfocin with 200 ml of vaccine diluent.

WITHDRAWAL PERIOD:

Eggs and milk: 5 days.
Meat: 5 days.

Recommendations

DRUG INTERACTIONS:
Fosfomycin synergizes with several antibiotics, including Rifampin, Ciprofloxacin, Gentamicin, Amikacin, Amoxicillin, Lincomycin, Macrolides, Tetracyclines, and Cephalexin.

USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION:
Fosfomycin can be used in pregnant animals. While Fosfomycin is excreted in breast milk in low concentrations, caution is advised when used in lactating animals.

Contraindications

Do not use in animals with hypersensitivity to Fosfomycin.
Not suitable for animals with renal dysfunction.

Expiry date

2 years from the manufacturing date.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place at temperatures ≤30°C. Protect from direct sunlight and keep out of reach of children.
